Juice Fasting – The Safe Way

Are you feeling a bit run-down lately? Is your energy level at zero for most of the day, and all you can think about is curling up in bed for a nice nap? If this sounds like you, then you might just be experiencing a sluggish digestive tract. The foods we consume often fill our bodies with strange toxins that leave us drained of energy.

There are steps you can take to get the zip back into your step. A simple juice fasting routine that is sure to cleanse your body and remove all toxins is the best thing you can do for your poor, tortured organs. The purpose of a juice fast is not to starve your body of nutrients, but to starve your body of the nasty toxins that exist in much of our food supply.

Wake Up

Wake your insides with a glass of room temperature water that has just a squeeze of lemon juice added. This is a great start as lemon and water help cleanse your intestines.

Use a body brush and give your lymphatic system a good stimulating rub. Follow this with a nice hot shower. Then finish the shower with a cool refreshing spray of water. Invigorating, and a nice way to wake in the morning.

Morning Breakfast

Fruit juices are best digested in the morning, so always opt for pure fruit juices for breakfast. Drink one 8 – 16 oz glass, depending on your size and needs.

After breakfast head outside for a brisk walk. Walking stimulates your whole body and gets all of the systems up and working. Exercise and fresh air are always a healthy, welcomed addition to any routine.

Mid Morning Snack 

Thirst throughout the day should be quenched with large glasses of water with a squeeze of lemon or lime. Herb tea (without added sugar) is also another great body cleanser.

Snacks should contain some sort of juice – more than just a squeeze. There are enough fruits and vegetables available to make just about any kind of juice. Choose a fruit that makes you happy and gives you energy.

Your internal clock will let you know when lunchtime rolls around. That grumbling you hear is your stomach telling you to send down some more nutrients. Drink another 8 – 16 oz of your chosen recipe, this time dilute it a bit.

Afternoon Snack

Follow the same plan as morning snack. As always, drink plenty of plain water or water with a touch of citrus juice. Dehydration is not a pleasant experience.


Dinner is the ideal time to add some vegetables to your juice. It is not required, but veggies will fill you a bit more than just a plain fruit juice will. Drink another 8 – 16 ounces of your favorite juice recipe.


Enjoy a nice refreshing fruit drink after you enjoy your heartier veggie drink. Try an apple, celery, or strawberry juice for a calmer you.

Before Bed

A relaxing bath in Epsom salt or essential oils is the very best thing you can do for your body before bed. Relaxing in the tub with a large glass of water with a squeeze of lemon will help finish the cleansing process and help you have a wonderful night’s rest.

After the Fast

Do not wake up and have a large meal of eggs, bacon and toast. This type of heavy, greasy meal will undo any good you just did. Instead, opt for a bowl of fruit – not juice – or eat an apple with some almond butter. The idea is to eat something solid that will fill you with the nutrients your body needs.

It is a good idea to make either lunch or dinner another ‘juice only’ meal. The choice is yours, but do make sure that you do not indulge in heavy foods that will make you sluggish. You really are what you eat.

Longer Fasts

Some people enjoy fasting for up to 3 days. This will totally cleanse your body of all toxins. Just follow the daily plan and make sure you are getting an adequate amount of calories and nutrients in your juice drinks.


Avocados really are a superfood. Make an avocado smoothie to not only fill you up, but slow down the detoxifying effects. This will help you fast for longer periods without negatively affecting the cleansing process.

You can snack on slices of raw fruits and vegetables.

Whether you decide to cleanse your body once a month, or once a year, feel secure in knowing that it cannot do your body harm, it can only do your body good. (However, it is best to discuss any fasting plan with your doctor before you start.) There really is no better way to cleanse the body of toxins that will also make you feel like a new you.
